Singapore 28/09/2015 - Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco) has signed an agreement with the Fujian provincial government on Sunday to build a 400,000-tonnes-per-year copper smelter in Ningde in southeastern Fujian, according to a report in state-owned Fujian Daily.

Chinalco chairman Ge Honglin was cited as saying the copper smelting project will be integrated with fabricating facilities and will help drive the development in Fujian's non-ferrous metals industry. He did not provide further details.

An official with the secretariat board of Aluminium Corp of China (Chalco), Chinalco’s Hong Kong-listed arm, said she was unfamiliar with the project, while officials at Chinalco could not be reached for comments.

Although it is focused on aluminium, Chinalco also has stakes in Yunnan Copper Group and Chinalco Luoyang Copper Co.
