London 04/01/2016 - Jean Marchand, global sales and marketing director for aluminium remelt ingots at Rio Tinto, has left the company after nearly 35 years to start his retirement.

Marchand, who was based in Montreal, left the company on December 31. He was on the aluminium committee of the London Metal Exchange.

"These past years have been filled with varied, wild and unpredictable market conditions: market premiums at record level, cash-three month backwardations, market surpluses/deficits (not often enough!!), overwhelming stock levels and stubbornly low prices. Challenges and opportunities everywhere!" he wrote in an email.

Marchand initially worked for the Canadian producer Alcan Inc, which Rio Tinto acquired in 2007 for $38.1 billion in cash.
