METALS PEOPLE - Liu Jianping is Chinalco Mining's new chairman

Singapore 08/01/2016 - Liu Jianping has been appointed as the chairman of the board and non-executive director of Chinalco Mining Corp International (CMCI) effective January 6, after the resignation of previous chairman Zhang Chengzhong with effect on the same day.

Aged 48, Liu is currently the vice general manager of Chinalco, the chairman of China Copper Corp and chairman of Yunnan Copper (Group) Co, according to CMCI’s Tuesday filing on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Liu had joined Chinalco in October 2008. He had previously served as deputy head and head of personnel department, assistant to the general manager, head of human resource department and deputy general manager in Chinalco. He had also served as general manager of the human resource department at Aluminium Corporation of China Limited.

Liu graduated from Renmin University of China with a master’s degree in economics majoring in commodity science.

CMCI - which is 85 percent owned by Chinalco - operates the Toromocho mine in Peru’s Morococha mining district.
