London 11/03/2016 - Alumet's remelt billet smelter in Schlins, Austria, will restart this weekend after three-and-a-half weeks of being offline, sources told FastMarkets.

The smelter, which produces 70,000 tonnes per year of aluminium billets remelted from ingots, has been out of operation due to issues in its aluminium processing line, sources said.

Consequently, the company has lost some 4,000-5,000 tonnes of production, those sources added.

Extruder customers have had to seek other sources of supply, which has contributed to a slight uptick in premiums for aluminium 6063 billets in Europe - these rose $5 per tonne this month to $345-360 per tonne delivered to the Ruhr region of Germany.
