Singapore 12/04/2016 - Aluminium production at Vedanta reached a record 923,300 tonnes in its fiscal year to the end of March 2016 - up five percent year-on-year - following the ramp-up of additional pots at its Korba II and Jharsuguda II smelters in India.

Its aluminium output in the January-March quarter, however, fell two percent year-on-year to 226,000 tonnes, the Indian producer said in a production report on Monday.

Vedanta has received approvals for the expansion of its Lanjigarh alumina refinery to 4 million tonnes per year from of 1 million tonnes per year, which "will be ramped up in phases on further visibility on bauxite sources", it added.

Lanjigarh had operated with a single stream in the January-March quarter, which saw its production fall 23 percent to 211,400 tonnes in the quarter. Vedanta had warned last year that it could close the refinery if it failed to secure local bauxite supply to keep the refinery operating.

Its total alumina output in the 2015-2016 fiscal year fell one percent to 971,000 tonnes.
