Winter Park, Florida 25/04/2016 - Aluminum demand in the United States and Canada, defined as shipments by domestic producers plus imports, totalled an estimated 4.110 billion pounds (1.86 million tonnes) through February, down two percent year-on-year, according to the Aluminum Association.
Demand for semi-fabricated (mill) products totalled 2.943 billion pounds (1.33 million tonnes), down 0.7 percent. Apparent consumption (demand less exports) in domestic markets totalled an estimated 3.614 billion pounds (1.64 million tonnes), a decrease of 3.8 percent year-to-date.
Exports of aluminum ingot and mill products from the US and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totalled 497 million pounds through February 2016, up 13.0 percent from the same period last year while imports were up 10.7 percent to 1.019 billion pounds (462,000 tonnes).
