METALS DATA - China's production of copper up, zinc down in Q1

Singapore 03/05/2016 - China’s refined copper production rose 8.5 percent year-on-year to 1.99 million tonnes in January-March, according to data published by China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) last week.

The first quarter growth rate has slowed 5.9 percentage points compared to the same period last year, NDRC said.

Production of zinc decreased one percent year-on-year to 1.45 million tonnes in January-March, relative to a 14.4-percent growth in the first quarter of last year.

Output for lead fell 5.8 percent year-on-year to 930,000 tonnes in January-March - the decline has narrowed 0.9 percentage points from the same period last year.

Electrolytic aluminium output fell two percent year-on-year to 7.34 million tonnes in the first three months of the year, relative to a 7.4-percent growth in the same period last year. The figure is the same as that reported by the National Bureau of Statistics in April.

Meanwhile Chinese alumina output dipped 0.5 percent year-on-year to 14.35 million tonnes in January-March this year, relative to a 15.3-percent growth in the same period last year.
