METALS DATA - US aluminum imports spike in March

Winter Park, Florida 10/05/2016 - Aluminum imports of ingot, scrap and mill products into the US and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totalled 708 million pounds (321,000 tonnes) in March 2016, up 10.3 percent year-on-year, according to the Aluminum Association.

Including scrap, which accounted for roughly 46 percent of reported aluminum exports in March, exports totalled 493 million pounds (223,000 tonnes), down 4.9 percent from a year ago, the association said.

Excluding scrap, exports totalled 265 million pounds (120,000 tonnes), up 3.0 percent over last year. Exports of scrap decreased 12.7 percent year-over-year, the trade group sad.

Through the first three months of 2016, total imports were up 8.4 percent to 1.791 billion pounds (812,000 tonnes) while exports were up 1.3 percent to 1,433 billion pounds (650,000 tonnes).
