METALS DATA - China's output of copper up 15 pct, zinc down 3 pct in April

Singapore 26/05/2016 - China’s refined copper production rose 11 percent year-on-year to 2.72 million tonnes in January-April, according to data published by China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) on Wednesday.

The January-April growth rate has slowed 0.9 percentage points compared to the same period last year, NDRC said.

In April itself, Chinese copper output increased 14.9 percent, up 7.5-percentage points compared to April last year. NDRC did not give the production volume.

Production of zinc decreased 1.1 percent year-on-year to 1.95 million tonnes in the first four months of the year, relative to a 13.7-percent growth in the same period last year.

Zinc output fell 2.5 percent year-on-year in April, versus a 12.5 percent growth in the same month last year.

Output for lead fell 3.8 percent year-on-year to 1.25 million tonnes in January-April - the decline has narrowed 0.7 percentage points from the same period last year.

Lead production growth increased 1.8 percentage points year-on-year to 2.7 percent in April.

Electrolytic aluminium output fell 1.7 percent year-on-year to 9.94 million tonnes in the first four months of the year, relative to an 8.8-percent growth in the same period last year. The figure is the same as that reported by the National Bureau of Statistics earlier in the month.

Aluminium production had fallen 1.2 percent year-on-year in April this year, relative to a 12-percent growth in April last year.

Meanwhile Chinese alumina output dipped 0.8 percent year-on-year to 19.18 million tonnes in January-April this year, compared to a 15.2-percent growth in the same period last year.
