London 20/06/2016 - Global primary aluminium production averaged 158,200 tonnes per day in May 2016 (31 days), the highest for six months and up from 157,400 tonnes per day in April (30 days), data issued by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) showed on Monday.
Total production in May was 4.905 million tonnes compared with 4.721 million tonnes in April. This also compares with May 2015's total of 4.928 million tonnes (159,000 tonnes per day).
Chinese production last month was 2.675 million tonnes, up from 2.569 million in the shorter previous month.
The IAI data does not include information for countries such as Azerbaijan, Iran, Malaysia, North Korea, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland and Romania - these countries did not report their production levels.
