London 26/07/2016 - The Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA) is to hold its annual conference next year in Europe for the second year in succession, with Dublin in the Republic of Ireland selected as the venue for April 24-26, 2017.

"The decision to keep the venue in Europe in 2017 was not taken lightly. It followed feedback from a number of members as to where next year’s event should be held and a great deal of deliberation on whether it should take place in North America or remain in Europe for a further year," MMTA chairman James Peer said in a letter on the association's website.

"Part of our decision has also been based on the result of the UK’s referendum to leave the EU. The resulting weakening of the pound against the dollar means that it would stretch the MMTA's resources to hold the event in the USA in 2017," he added.

It is the MMTA's intention, however, to bring the conference back to North America in 2018, he said.

This year's conference was held in Amsterdam in the Netherlands - the global gathering usually alternates between Europe and North America. The MMTA represents producers, consumers and traders of minor metals as well as warehouses and assayers.
