Singapore 13/09/2016 - China’s production of electrolytic aluminium was almost flat, falling by a slight 0.8 year-on-year to 2.71 million tonnes in August, according to data published by the country’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Tuesday.

Compared to July, the output rose 1.9 percent in August.

Chinese aluminium production has been crept higher in recent months due to production restarts and new capacity commissioning, although the rate of increase has not been as fast as expected

Chinese aluminium output totalled 20.69 million tonnes in the first eight months of this year, down 1.8 percent from the same period last year.

Meanwhile China’s output of ten major nonferrous metals, including aluminium, rose 1.2 percent year-on-year and 1.4 percent month-on-month to 4.45 million tonnes in August.

This took production to 34.10 million tonnes in January-August, up 0.7 percent from the same period last year.

Additionally, overall industrial production in the country’s nonferrous metal smelting and fabricating industry increased 3 percent year-on-year in August and 8.6 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of the year – the growth rates ease from growths of 5.6 percent and 9.4 percent in July and January-July respectively.
