London 22/09/2016 - Former Trafigura trader Ross Miles has joined HDP Trading in London this month to develop an aluminium trading book, FastMarkets has learned.

Miles spent two years at Trafigura in Geneva trading non-ferrous scrap, having previously worked at Brookside Metal, an Amalgamated Metal Corp company, for a year. Prior to that, he worked at Milver Metal in the UK - also an AMC company - for eight years.

HDP plans to build up a trading portfolio for all aluminium materials including primary aluminium, high-grade, alloys and scrap, Miles told FastMarkets.

"We are at an embryonic stage but in the medium to long term, we want to expand and bring in more people," he said.

Zug-registered HDP Trading has been expanding in metals trading in the past two years. In 2014, it merged with GECX Group Ltd, the London-based entity previously owned by the Al Rajhi Group. As part of this merger, GECX Group Ltd was renamed HDP Trading Ltd early in 2016.

As well as its Swiss and UK operations, HDP Trading also has a presence in China to help facilitate its growing worldwide trading operations.

Aluminium trader Robert McMillan and copper and zinc trader Steve Barbouttis left HDP Trading in June to join Hartree Partners in London.
