London 03/10/2016 - Copper has been delivered into LME-registered warehouses in Liverpool for the first time in more than three years.

According to data from the exchange on Monday, 4,050 tonnes of cathode have gone on warrant in the UK city - the first time that copper has been held in Liverpool since May 28, 2013.

There are 16,925 tonnes of the metal in nearby warehouses in Hull.

Last week, ISTIM registered its first warehouse outside of the US in Liverpool. ISTIM UK received approval from the LME to list a warehouse in Liverpool able to store aluminium alloy, aluminium, copper, nickel, lead, tin and zinc. Outside of copper, Liverpool has very little stock of metal - there are just 480 tonnes of nickel and 75 tonnes of zinc on warrant there.

Other registered warehouses in Liverpool include two Henry Bath sheds and five belonging to Henry Diaper & Co.

The UK has rapidly accumulated a sizeable proportion of global LME stocks of the metal - registered warehouses in the UK now hold seven percent of LME-registered copper, having started the year nearer zero.

While much of the focus this year has been on the huge deliveries of metal around Southeast Asia, Hull has quietly accumulated a net 19,700 tonnes since the start of 2016.

While much of this metal is likely to be in situ for some time, some has been cancelled - 3,500 tonnes are listed under cancelled warrants in Hull.
