AMM - by Kirk Maltais

New York 04/10/2016 - Kaiser Aluminum Corp.’s aluminium casthouse in Sherman, Texas, is back online following an approximately 3-month outage, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to AMM Tuesday.

“The Sherman casthouse is back up,” the source said, also confirming that the facility is still not operating at full capacity, and thus Norsk Hydro ASA’s aluminum remelt facility in Commerce, Texas, will continue to help Kaiser fill orders until it is back to full capacity.

A spokeswoman for Kaiser declined to confirm if the casthouse was back online, but did confirm that work on the facility was ongoing.

“We continue to move forward on the appropriate repairs of Sherman’s casthouse while continuing to meet the ongoing demands of our customers,” the spokeswoman told AMM via email.

Representatives at the Sherman facility declined to confirm if the casthouse had been brought back online.

AMM first reported that Foothills Ranch, Calif.-based Kaiser’s Texas casthouse was offline in July, and had been offline for approximately 2-4 weeks. To keep up with orders, Hydro’s Commerce facility had been receiving Sherman’s scrap recycling.

Kaiser’s Sherman facility produces soft alloy extrusions, according to the company’s website.
