Sao Paulo 05/10/2016 - Brazilian copper processor Termomecanica has announced its debut in the aluminium market as a provider of products for sectors including refrigeration, automotive, packaging and construction.

The company has adapted part of its existing facilities in the south-eastern state of São Paulo and has invested 27 million Reais ($8.4 million) in the new aluminium production line, it said in a statement.

In the initial stage, Termomecanica expects to produce 200-250 tonnes per month of aluminium products, which will be destined for the domestic market and the Mercosul area.

Its production could reach around 1,500 tpm in a second stage of the project, the company said, which would require further investments and has no set start date.

"There is great potential for aluminium because of the versatility and range of applications that it [covers]," Termomecanica president Regina Celi Venancio said.

Termomecanica's gross revenue totalled 1.25 billion Reais in 2015, in line with a year earlier - a significant increase in export volumes helped to offset weak domestic demand.
