London 07/10/2016 - Malaysia Smelting Corp has appointed Dr Patrick Yong as its new CEO on Friday, October 7 after longstanding head Cheong Yong Chua resigned.

Dr Yong was formerly managing director of MSC - the world's second-largest tin smelting company - and has a background in electrical engineering, in which he obtained his doctorate.

Tin industry veteran Chua had been CEO of MSC since January 2014 and is resigning to pursue personal interests, according to the company.

"I am honoured and excited with the opportunity to lead and advance MSC into the next phase of our strategic development. The fast-paced changes of this world demand that we can adapt quickly, easily and at a minimal cost while retaining the focus on each business divisions. Our future set-up must effectively respond to these challenges," Yong said.

MSC produced more than 30,000 tonnes of LME-brand refined tin in 2015.
