Santiago, Chile 14/04/2015 - Codelco's Ministro Hales roaster should be back in operation in the next two or three months, CEO Nelson Pizarro said at the CRU conference here today.

The roaster, which was designed to lower the arsenic level of the concentrate and produce calcines that would then be smelted into cathodes at the Chuquicamata smelter, ran into technical problems that have prevented the treatment of high-arsenic concentrate at the plant.

Ministro Hales, which produced its first metal in 2013 at 34,000 tonnes, recorded output of 66,000 tonnes in the first half of 2014. The concentrate has arsenic content of around four percent, well above the 0.5-percent upper limit for imports into China.
