London 15/09/2015 - Pan Pacific Copper's (PPC) Tamano Smelter was hit by fire on September 9, and the company is currently investigating potential output loss at the plant in Japan run by Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co. Ltd.
"We are just investigating the effects (on) refined production. Thus, it's difficult to answer the (impact) at present," said Yusuke Handa, who is in charge of public relations at PPC.
As well as the Tamano smelter, PPC also has two other smelting and refining operations in Japan - the Saganoseki Smelter and Refinery and the Hitachi Refinery.
Total output for refined copper for 2015 is estimated at 575,000 tonnes, up from 560,000 tonnes in 2014, according to PPC's commercial team.
Refined copper production capacity is 740,000 tonnes per year, with 450,000 tonnes from Saganoseki and Hitachi and 290,000 tonnes from Tamano.
