Singapore 01/02/2016 - Around 10 percent of primary aluminium production capacity at Hydro’s Ardal plant in Norway is temporarily shut down following a power outage last Friday night, Hydro said in a statement on Monday.

Full primary aluminium production is expected to resume in the second quarter, it said.

Customers are expected to be unaffected by the incident as Hydro will increase the re-melt of cold metal at the plant's cast house, compensating for the temporarily reduced primary production, the company said, adding that financial impact is also expected to be limited.

Casting operations at the plant have fully resumed after the incident, and efforts are ongoing to further stabilise the plant's primary aluminium production processes, Hydro said.

Hydro's primary aluminium plant experienced almost four hours power outage due to a technical fault following adverse weather conditions in the region. Company investigations into the outage are ongoing.

The Ardal plant has an annual production of around 190,000 tonnes of primary aluminium. It also casts sheet ingots and primary foundry alloys.
